Ensure your properties electrical system is up to a current safety standard and future proofed.

We offer maintenance and full upgrades to switchboards.

A switchboard upgrade can comprise of the smallest component change to a full upgrade to keep up with current standards and safety features.

Does your switchboard look like this?

Porcelain fuses? Asbestos panel? Accumulation meters?

Well, our recommendation would be to upgrade your switchboard.
Why do you ask?

Asbestos Panel
Asbestos is extremely fibrous and the tiny fibers are easily breathed in when they can become trapped in the lungs.
Being exposed to asbestos increases the risk of developing cancers of the lung, ovary and larynx as well as mesothelioma (cancer of the lining of the lung).

These cancers often develop decades after exposure to asbestos.) These panels can no longer be drilled into to add more components to you’re switchboard without risking your electrician, therefore when new components are to be added we need to remove and replace that asbestos panel.

Accumulation Meters
These meters will work perfectly fine for the standard household although not as accurate as a smart meter they are not required to be replaced unless major works are being carried out like a meter panel replacement. However when installing renewables like Solar Photovoltaic and battery storage systems, these meters cannot read accurately what is being fed back to the grid from your PV system. A smart meter replacement from your electricity provider will help make your electricity bill more accurate in what your pay and receive for electricity.

Porcelain Fuses
These types of protection although do what they say on the tin do not offer protection to any persons inside your property. these fuses use heat from the use of electricity going through the cable of the circuit its providing and once the small wire in between the fuse reaches its breaking temperature the fuse wire snaps and ‘trips’ the fuse. Essentially these will only trip in an overload situation, we offer what is called RCBO’s (Residual Current Breaker with Overload) protective devices which offer protection to your appliances, cabling in the house and yourselves. RCBO’s are the standard protective device on the market used at this current state and offer the bare minimum required for a safe installation. further protection we offer is SPDs and AFDDs. SPDs or Surge Protection Device for long are devices installed at your switchboard to protect from a surge of current either from a fault in the grid or lightning storms which could damage sensitive equipment in your property, like your fridge, TVs, computers etc. AFDDs or Arc Fault Detection Devices are a step up from RCBOs. AFDDs will trip in the event of an arc flashing between contacts on a circuit its protecting. AFDDs are not very common at this stage mainly because of price and also their age, compared to an RCBO AFDDs are very new to the market. AFDDs do offer what a RCBO does and more with its arc fault detection.

Main Switch Protection
When installing renewables like Solar and Batteries your Main Switch of your property needs to have what’s called a Thermal Breaking protective Device which is an MCB (miniature Circuit Breaker) looks very similar to all breakers inside your switchboard but this one will isolate your supply to the property from the grid. An MCB will protect from Overload faults from either the house feeds, grid faults and even faults on the PV systems. If your Main Switch does not have any thermal Protection it is recommended to install an MCB to protect your property at the first point of isolation.
